Studio Residency
During the summer months, many college campuses and their ceramics studios are closed or offer reduced access.
The Ventura County Potters’ Guild realized that serious ceramic students were forced to cease making pots for this 90 days; and, that we could be a resource for students by providing a way for them to be mentored by a master potter in an existing studio. To facilitate this growth opportunity, the Guild began a Studio Residency Program.
We currently mentor two to four students each summer. The selected individuals receive a 12-week studio membership/residency at the Stacy Rowe Pottery Studio in Oxnard or the Vita Art Center in Ventura depending on the applicant’s preference and availability in the studio of choice, typically June through August.
Applicants provide a vision for what they intend to explore and learn during their residency. This includes skills improvement, a project plan and any other area of being a competent ceramist they wish to explore. At the end of their journey the resident completes a portfolio of their completed work and a video or in-person presentation to share at a VCPG Member Meeting in October, with a Q&A.
